FAQ's on IUI Treatment
There are several situations in which IUI can be beneficial, including:
● Infertility due to a mild male factor
● Concerns regarding cervical mucous or cervical cancer
● Unexplained infertility
● A mild case of endometriosis
● Donor sperm users
IUI involves fertilisation inside the uterus, whereas IVF involves fertilisation outside the uterus in a lab. It involves taking fertility medication to stimulate the ovaries, followed by a minor surgery to retrieve the mature eggs. Fertilised eggs are fertilised in the lab with prepared sperm. Transferring the embryos into the uterus or freezing them for later use can then be done. The cost and time associated with IUI are usually lower than those associated with IVF.
It may feel uncomfortable, but IUI is relatively painless and does not require anaesthesia. Cramping can feel similar to having a Pap smear. As a result of irritation of the delicate cervix lining, you may also experience spotting afterward. After a few days, this should go away. After the procedure, you can resume your normal activities, but you should avoid strenuous exercise.
IUI is a low-risk procedure, but there are a few concerns to keep in mind. Among them are:
Injectable fertility medications can cause ovaries to respond too well and a large number of eggs mature and may be released simultaneously, resulting in ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). As a result, the ovaries become swollen and painful. OHSS can cause fluid accumulation in the abdomen, and it can even be fatal in some cases.
